Saturday, August 2 & Sunday, August 3
10 am - 4 pm
This workshop invites participants to explore the challenge of matrix/plate transformation through a hands-on survey of etching techniques and experimentation with a wide range of etching tools. Participants will be guided through the concept of visual metamorphosis, achieved by radically altering a copper plate. These transformations may include acts of removal—such as sanding, scraping, and open biting—as well as the introduction of new visual elements like line, texture, and tonal value.
Each participant will execute up to six significant alterations to their plate, printing each distinct state using fundamental printing methods and working with monochromatic and two-color palettes.
At the heart of this process is the idea that radical transformation is a form of visual liberation—a new beginning that still carries traces of past expression. This workshop encourages a commitment to reworking the plates as a path to generating new impressions.
This workshop is limited to 6 participants.
