Relief (Block) Workshops
Sunday, November 1 & Sunday, November 8
9:30 am - 3:30 pm
Fall is the time of seed pods, and Farmer’s markets. Both the structure of pods and what they contain, and the glorious produce displayed at markets in our region are packages filled with Nature’s patterns. These can be easily translated into designs and ideas for prints!
From dissecting plant materials and looking at structures and patterns they contain, students will make easily printable plates from Tetra paks, Bristol board with modeling paste and Puffy Paint, and stencils of oil board and acetate. These plates can be mixed together and printed with each other to create a wide range of visual possibilities. New vocabularies of marks and patterns will emerge from these experiments.
No experience necessary, just a willingness to get inky and try something new.

Take your printmaking beyond a single-night class with this comprehensive 3-week course for adults. Designed for beginners and returning artists seeking a solid technical foundation, this workshop explores three classic relief carving surfaces: flexible rubber blocks, traditional linoleum, and wood. By translating a single image idea across all three materials, you will gain hands-on insight into how surface texture, gouge technique, and material density shape your final prints, giving you ample studio time to experiment and refine your technique.

Come make and print your own custom holiday cards! This drop-in workshop is designed to fit your schedule—arrive whenever you like during event hours and stay as long as you need to finish your prints. You’ll have the option to carve your own original design or print using pre-carved blocks that are ready to go. Leave with a set of beautiful, self-printed cards ready to send to family and friends!

Take your block printing to the next level with the jigsaw method! In this intermediate workshop, you will learn how to create vibrant, multi-color prints by cutting your block into pieces, carving each section individually, inking them separately, and reassembling them before running the finished print through the press.
All materials will be provided. Some prior block printing experience is required.

Lithography Workshops

In this workshop, you will learn how to make lithographic prints using Pronto plates instead of traditional stone and aluminum plate techniques.

Learn the basics or get a refresher on intaglio printing. Starting with dry-point, learn how to physically make incised marks and textures on a plate that will hold ink for printing. After learning the fundamentals of inking, wiping, and printing an intaglio plate, you will learn various approaches to etching lines, tones, and textures into a copper plate using BIG etching ground. You will have the opportunity to experiment, rework your plate, and combine different techniques to create an editionable print.
Class enrollment includes weekend studio access to work on class projects during posted Open Hours. No class on November 11th and November 25th.
