PATTI CAPALDI is a visual artist who divides her time between Ithaca and Brooklyn, NY. Her practice is deeply rooted in the history and processes of photo-based imagery, working at the intersection of print media to create multiples, installations, and artists’ books.
Capaldi’s work has been exhibited extensively in national and international venues including Bernard Toale Gallery (Boston), Nylon Gallery (London), Metaphor Contemporary (Brooklyn), CEPA Gallery (Buffalo), and the Johnson Art Museum (Ithaca), among other national and international spaces. Her pieces are also featured in the flat-file viewing program at Pierogi Gallery, NYC and the former Joseph Carroll & Sons (Boston) viewing program.
Her artistic contributions have been recognized through numerous awards including a New York Foundation for the Arts Fellowship, the Lily Auchincloss Foundation Award for works on paper/multiples/book arts, a Gottlieb Foundation Grant, and a Rauschenberg Change grant.
Capaldi’s creative development has been further enriched through prestigious residencies at the MacDowell Colony, Millay Foundation, Banff Center for the Arts, Virginia Center for the Creative Arts, AIR Program (Vienna, Austria), Jentel Foundation, Santa Fe Art Institute, Constance Saltonstall Foundation, and the Oberpfalzer Kunstlerhaus in Germany amongst others.
She holds an MFA from the Massachusetts College of Art & Design and a BFA from Minneapolis College of Art &
Design. Her academic career includes teaching Artists’ Books at the New School University and Foundations of Image & Text at Fordham University. Currently, Capaldi serves as an associate professor of art at Ithaca College, Ithaca, New York.
