REVolution: A Community Print Installation at ArtBeat 2026 / Multiple June Dates

$10.00

We are excited to partner with the Somerville Arts Council to produce a public installation of prints for this year’s ArtBeat festival (July 18th). The Arts Council has selected REVolution as this year's festival theme, and we think it is a perfect fit for our community. Printmaking has a long, storied history of playing a critical role in the spread of revolutionary ideas and cultural transformation.

We invite local printmakers to join us by carving a block with their personal interpretation of the theme.

The Project: All participants will receive a large-format 12" x 12" linoleum block to carve at home. We will then come together at New Impressions during designated "print days" to run the blocks through the presses. Each participant will keep 3 prints for their portfolio, and 1 print will be added to the collective public installation at the Inside-OUT Gallery (located in the CVS Windows in Davis Square) for ArtBeat.

Requirements & Experience: While all experience levels are welcome, this workshop requires independent work and access to your own linoleum or wood-carving tools.

If you need tools or just want to carve in a group, we are hosting two optional Community Carving Sessions at the studio. You are welcome to come carve together, ask questions, and use the studio’s carving tools.

From the Somerville Arts Council on their chosen theme:“Let’s get revved up! In honor of the American Revolution’s 250th anniversary, this year’s ArtBeat theme will be REVolution. Think of it as an artistic prompt. Let’s celebrate the powerful spirit of transformation and explore the spark that challenges the status quo. We encourage our creative community to interpret this theme in myriad ways – perhaps by exploring celestial revolutions of the planets or artistic revolutions that have changed the course of art history. Whether it’s the physical turning of a potter’s wheel, a punk rock revolt, or the rhythmic cycles of nature, REVolution is not just a commemoration of the past, but a spirit that propels us forward.”
